mum life work and business mum life work and business by Sadé Llerraf
Running a business on your own is already a full-time job — but when you’re also a mum, the juggling act gets even more real. People often see the curated social posts, the product drops, or the milestones, but there’s a whole world that happens behind the scenes.
This week I took some time off from my main job to be more present with my son it was his birthday week so while it wasn’t a “normal” work week, it was the perfect example of how life and business often overlap when you’re a solo entrepreneur and a parent.
Monday: Legoland & Early-Morning Admin
My son turned another year older, and we celebrated with a trip to Legoland! I knew I’d be out most of the day, so I woke up early to handle my inbox and get through any urgent admin before we set off.
Luckily, I managed to get out of driving (small win!), so while in the passenger seat I kept up with emails and finished off a few Buffer posts using my phone. Multitasking on the move has become second nature.
Tuesday: Meetings, Product Work & Downtime
Alongside product development and some creative planning, I also had an online meeting with professionals supporting my son’s speech and language journey. It’s so important to me to stay hands-on with both his development and my business, and this day felt like a good balance of both.
After the meeting, we had a chilled day at home. While he played, I sketched out product concepts and made notes in Microsoft Teams for future collections. Being home meant I could dip in and out of work between cuddles, snacks, and story time the true reality of mumpreneur life.
Wednesday: Outdoor Adventures & Late-Night Strategy
We went on another adventure this time to Call of the Wild. It was such a fun, nature-filled day, and I was so glad to have the flexibility to enjoy it with him.
Once he was in bed, I switched gears into business mode. I spent the evening researching marketing strategies and looking at campaign ideas for our next product drop. These quiet hours are often where I get my best ideas when the house is still and I can fully focus.
Thursday: Housework, Webinars & Planning
This was a reset day. I spent the morning catching up on household chores (the less glamorous side of solo life!), and during lunch, I joined a really insightful online webinar.
I use platforms like Enterprise Nation to keep learning and connect with others. The growth never stops, and I try to squeeze learning moments in whenever I can, even on slower days.
Friday: Orders & Old Friends
Friday morning was all business packing and fulfilling orders, checking inventory, and updating my listings. I use Sage to stay on top of the numbers and Photoshop to prep any last-minute graphics.
After that, I met up with an old friend for a long-overdue playdate with the kids. It reminded me how important friendships are, especially when you spend so much time working alone.
This week wasn’t about hustle and grind it was about integration. It reminded me that part of the beauty of being a solo entrepreneur is being able to create a business that works around your life, not against it.
Yes, there’s pressure. Yes, there’s a lot to juggle. But there’s also joy in the freedom, the creativity, and the ability to show up fully for both your dreams and your loved ones.
If you’re doing it all alone too or thinking of starting just know that you can build a business that honours your life and your values. It might not look like anyone else’s version of success, and that’s what makes it powerful.
